Prepare for your post op recovery - check list

Shopping

Remember to purchase all your prescription medications, vitamins, recovery supplements and extra dressings before hand so you don’t have to leave the house.

Consider buying a thermometer in case you feel a little feverish during the post op phase

Get some magazines, a good book or rent some DVD’s to keep amused

Do you have ice packs or a couple of bags of frozen peas for post op cooling

A heating pad, hot water bottle or microwaveable pack can be useful for back aches and pains

Wet wipes are great for a quick freshen up

Stock up with light meals, soups etc as you probably won’t feel like cooking or eating large amounts

Duties

Take out rubbish and recycling so you don’t have to worry about

Do all your washing and put clean sheets on the bed

Arrange childcare and/or pet care

   For pets:

Place cans of food and can opener at arm level to prevent bending or reaching

Consider using a times feeder and self watering dish

Change litter beforehand as you don’t want to expose yourself to avoidable sources of germs

Think ahead. Try to place items you need at hip level to prevent excess bending or stretching

Have a few comfortable oversized shirts available that open from the front as well as track suit or PJ bottoms.  All great for wearing around the house

Keep dressing gown and slippers near

Remember a couple of scrunchies to tuck away long hair

Black out blinds are great but sleep masks are a good way of ensuring resting during daylight hours
