Prepare for Surgery

The initial consultation with your surgeon is very important. The surgeon will need your complete medical history, so check your own records ahead of time and be ready to provide this information, if you have any allergies; if you're taking any vitamins, medications (prescription or over-the-counter) especially aspirin or other drugs.

You need to inform your surgeon about any medical conditions that might affect the surgery such as high blood pressure, clotting problems, thyroid disease, diabetes etc.

Smoking in particular may cause problems with skin healing so it is imperative to stop smoking at least two weeks before and after surgery.
While you're making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days if needed.

All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk

When cosmetic surgery is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including a reaction to the anaesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon's instructions both before and after surgery.

Your anaesthetist will meet you before your operation and will:

ask you about your health
discuss with you which types of anaesthetic can be used
discuss with you the benefits, risks and your preferences
decide with you which anaesthetic would be best for you
decide for you, if you would prefer that.

The choice of anaesthetic depends on:

your operation
your answers to the questions you have been asked
your physical condition
your preferences and the reasons for them
your anaesthetist's recommendations for you
and the reasons for them
the equipment, staff and other resources at your hospital.

L-Arginine Dietary Supplement for pre surgery otimisation

For two weeks prior and two weeks post surgery Ms Kavouni advises patients undergoing major procedures such as tummy tuck, mastopexy and facelifts to start taking ARKWORLD L-Arginine Dietary Supplements.

The role of Nitric Oxide in wound healing is now well recognised, it helps open up vessels allowing oxygen rich blood cells to pass through into the tissues.

Arginine functions, uses, and health benefits

Arginine is one of the 20 most common natural amino acids. Arginine, like most amino acids, can have one of two forms, called the L-form and the D-form. The L-form of arginine (and most other amino acids) is more compatible with human biochemistry, such that L-arginine is the only form recommended.
Arginine is involved in multiple areas of human physiology and metabolism. Arginine plays an important role in cell division, the healing of wounds, removing ammonia from the body, immune function, and the release of hormones.
L-arginine, is an immune system enhancer. It stimulates the thymus gland, boosts white blood cell production and stimulates release of growth hormone.
L-arginine is used by the immune system to help regulate the activity of the thymus gland, which is responsible for manufacturing T lymphocytes.

Arginine is needed to increase protein synthesis, which can in turn increase cellular replication. Therefore, arginine may help people with inadequate numbers of certain cells. Although it is not a major inter-organ shuttle of nitrogen, arginine nevertheless plays an important role in nitrogen metabolism as an intermediate in the urea cycle, making it essential for ammonia detoxification.

Arginine has a number of functions in the body such as assisting in wound healing, hormone production, immune function and removal of excess ammonia.
The body uses arginine to produce nitric oxide and due to arginine's nitric oxide-stimulating effects, it can be utilized in therapeutic regimens for angina pectoris, congestive heart failure, hypertension, coronary heart disease, preeclampsia, intermittent claudication, and erectile dysfunction.
